King honours Muslim scholars participating in Aal al-Bayt Institute conference

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday honoured a group of Islamic scholars who participated in the 17th conference of the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought that started Sunday, according to a Royal Court statement. 

The ceremony was held at Al Husseiniya Palace and attended by HRH Prince Ghazi, the King’s personal envoy and adviser for religious and cultural affairs, who is also the chairman of the institute’s board of trustees.

During the ceremony, King Abdullah bestowed Royal medals on five scholars and presented certificates of active membership in the institute to four others. 

The Monarch bestowed the King Abdullah II Order of Distinction of the First Class to Sheikh Mohammad Hussein, Abdullah Bah, Mohammad Bin Sharifa, Abu Al Hassan Siddiq and Mohammad Bshari. 

The membership certificates were presented to Sheikh Abubaker Ahmed, president of the "Jamia Markazu Ssaquafathi Ssunniyya" in India, and Mohammad Sultan, a Sharia educator at the UAE University, along with Abdullah Fadaaq and Mohammad Al Yaqoubi.

The King also received the book that details a historical chronology of events in Prophet Mohammad’s life, presented by Ali Jumaa, a member of Al Azhar's Council of Senior Scholars.

For his part, General Director of the institute Minwer Al Mheid said that the 17th conference brings together several scholars and thinkers from the Islamic nation, who seek to utilise modern technology in serving their purposes. 

The ceremony was attended by Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh. 

The three-day conference is being held at Le Royal Hotel in Amman, with 85 scholars taking part, representing 35 Arab, Muslim and foreign countries to discuss 33 research papers.
