AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday met with a US congressional delegation, chaired by Representative Michael Conaway (R-Texas), and discussed bilateral relations and the latest regional developments.

During the meeting, attended by HRH Prince Feisal, His Majesty voiced the Kingdom's keenness on furthering its relations with the US in all fields, expressing appreciation for Washington's assistance to Amman, a Royal Court statement said.

Talks also tackled the challenges facing the region, especially rising terrorism and radicalisation, the statement said.

For his part, Conaway expressed appreciation for the Kingdom's pivotal role in addressing the region's woes using a moderate and sound approach, according to the statement.

Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, King's Office Director Jafar Hassan and US Ambassador to Jordan Alice G. Wells attended the meeting.

Also on Tuesday, Planning and International Cooperation Minister Imad Fakhoury met with the congressional delegation and briefed them on the economic problems facing the Kingdom.

He thanked the US for its supportive role in alleviating financial burdens shouldered by the Kingdom, noting that total US aid offered to Jordan by the end of 2016 will amount to around $1.275 billion, according to a ministry statement.

The minister also briefed the delegates on the progress in implementing the executive plan in the Jordan Compact to ensure implementing the outcomes of the London donor conference, in addition to the progress in the work of the EU on simplifying the rules of origin.

He stressed the importance of benefiting from the international humanitarian summit to be held in Istanbul at the end of May and the UN summit for refugees and migrants to be hosted by US President Barack Obama during the meetings of the UN General Assembly this September.
