AMMAN — The first prize winners of this year’s Jordan Young Scientists (JoYS), will represent Jordan at the BT Young Scientist Exhibition in Dublin, Ireland, according to the Irish embassy.

The mission on Monday announced the selection of five students from the Islamic Educational College in Amman after winning the completion which was held at Al Hussein Technical University last year, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The winning team was recognised for their innovative project  the ‘Artificial Nervous System’which incorporates the NodeMcu device. The device controls electrical muscle stimulation to promote regulated muscle movement in order to explore its potential as a treatment for paralysis, which results from spinal cord injury, the embassy said.

Ambassador Marianne Bolger said that “The Embassy of Ireland is extremely proud to be a co-sponsor of this wonderful initiative. The embassy will pledge its support to continue working with the committed partners in the Jordan Young Scientist initiative to ensure its success for many years to come and contribute to plans for an innovative future work force and society which can respond to the pace of accelerated global changes, challenges and opportunities.”

Ambassador Bolger also wished Rashed Abdullah, Omar Mousa, Saleh Hanti, Hashem Najdawi, and Yazan Maali the best of  luck in their participation in the exhibition in Ireland.

The JoYS winners will have the chance to showcase their expertise and projects in Dublin, as well as engage with and learn from other students from Europe and Africa.

Launched by the Embassy of Ireland in Jordan in 2022, the JoYS initiative brings together the government, the private sector, the Crown Prince Foundation, Queen Rania Foundation and multiple educational institutions who oversee the effective implementation of the initiative.
