AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed on Monday the United Nations Security Council's adoption of a resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during the holy month of Ramadan.

Ministry's spokesperson Sufian Qudah stressed that Israel must adhere to this decision, which emphasises protecting civilians and the "unimpeded and sustainable" delivery of humanitarian aid to all regions of the Gaza Strip, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Qudah highlighted the significance of the Security Council's resolution as a foundation for future peace efforts. He also expressed optimism that this resolution could lead to an immediate and lasting end to hostilities.

The spokesperson also voiced hope that the international community and the Security Council would take steps to safeguard the two-state solution and ensure the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with occupied Jerusalem as its capital, thereby promoting security, peace, and stability in the region.
