Jordan, Taiwan to cooperate closely in healthcare

AMMAN — Jordan and Taiwan on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding to promote healthcare cooperation.

The memorandum, signed at the conclusion of the Jordan-Taiwan Medical Cooperation Seminar, seeks to boost exchanges between the resources office of the medical service industry in Taiwan and the Private Hospitals Association.

Under the deal, the signatories will establish a mutual cooperation and exchange platform for healthcare, promote the development of the industry in the two countries, and coordinate mutual visits and meetings.

The two sides will also work on organising conferences, symposia and forums addressing healthcare issues.

Moreover, they agreed to form a taskforce to coordinate the implementation of and follow-up on the memo.

Addressing the seminar, HH Princess Dina Mired, director general of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF), underlined the importance of the conference in exploring opportunities and exchanging expertise in the field.

The princess reviewed several projects under way, as well as the expansion of the King Hussein Cancer Centre which will ensure the provision of improved services for patients of various nationalities.

Matthew S. Lee, representative of the commercial office of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Jordan, said the event is meant to establish a platform for medical professionals from both sides, for networking, exchanging views and moving forward on future cooperation.

Commending Jordan's healthcare system and medical tourism as the best in the region, he also highlighted the success of Taiwan's healthcare and medical industries.

"In our culture, we have a… saying, that good leadership and good doctors are the most important assets for a country. I admire that Jordan not only has the best leadership, but also has an abundance of good doctors," Lee said.

Participants at the seminar, who included several experts and officials, discussed healthcare systems in Jordan and Taiwan, medical data visualisation, medical tourism in the Kingdom and opportunities for cooperation with Taiwan.
