AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday sent a letter to Iraqi President Fouad Massoum, in which he congratulated him on tasking Haider Al Abadi with forming the new Iraqi government.

In the letter, King Abdullah underlined Jordan's full commitment to maintaining the unity of Iraq and its strength, stressing the importance of the formation of a new Iraqi government, according to a Royal Court statement.

He noted that having a new government paves the way for empowering Iraq and enabling it to consolidate its national unity and meet the aspirations of the Iraqi people towards democracy, pluralism and a prosperous future as Iraq assumes its "vital" role at the regional and international levels.

“We voice our full trust in the awareness and cohesion of the brotherly Iraqi people and their ability to overcome challenges and maintain their unity,” said the King.

“Jordan, which is connected by deep-rooted brotherly and historical ties to your dear country, will always remain the strong pillar to support Iraq and all its stances will be in the interest of all your people,” King Abdullah stressed.

He added that the Kingdom will utilise its capabilities to support efforts aimed at strengthening Iraq’s internal front and ensuring the participation of all Iraqis in a comprehensive political process as partners in creating a better future.

“I would like to take this occasion to stress the importance of continuing coordination and consultation between our two countries,” the King said.

He also called for developing bilateral cooperation and activating joint Arab action to improve the ability of the region’s countries to overcome challenges.
