AMMAN — The government on Monday condemned the recurrent Israeli violations against Al Haram Al Sharif /Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
The condemnation came after Israeli forces stormed the mosque on Sunday and Monday, assaulting worshippers and mosque employees, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The Israeli forces used rubber bullets and stun grenades inside, restricting the entry of worshippers. Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani called for an immediate intervention to stop the unjustified violations and to oblige Israel, as an occupation force, to respect the status quo at the shrine, the third holiest for Muslims after Mecca and Medina.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh contacted Israeli officials, in which he expressed the Kingdom's condemnation and utter rejection of the provocative Israeli practices, demanding that they should be stopped immediately.
Momani said that contact with the Israeli side is still ongoing to stop the violations and called for the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and intervene.
