AMMAN — Jordan on Wednesday condemned Israel’s approval of constructing thousands of new settlement units in the occupied Palestinian territories, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Daifallah Fayez reiterated the Kingdom's rejection of Israel’s settlement policies in the occupied Palestine, in violation of international law and decisions of the Security Council, stressing that the unilateral illegal step undermines the two-state solution, which is based on international legitimacy resolutions.

Fayez also stressed the necessity of stopping all Israeli settlement practices, be it construction, expansion or confiscation of land, in accordance with Israel's obligations as an occupying force.

He called on the international community to take “decisive” positions and exert pressure on Israel to stop practices that undermine peace efforts. Israel on Wednesday approved 2,166 new settler units across the occupied West Bank, according to AFP news agency.
