JD38m retrieved from electricity theft cases — report

AMMAN — Revenues collected due to resolving cases of electricity theft and meter tampering from 2016 to 2019 amounted to JD38.17 million, according to data from the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Revenues at the Jordan Electric Power Company (JEPCO) amounted to JD27.78 million, JD5.15 million at the Irbid Electricity Company (IDECO), and JD5.13 million at the Electricity Distribution Company (EDCO).
According to the commission’s 2019 report, 293,001 periodic inspections were carried out, during which Public Security Directorate and General Directorate of Gendarmerie personnel, in cooperation with electricity distribution companies, detected 2,413 cases of electricity theft and meter tampering, while the commission detected 10,547 cases.
Annual electrical loss savings reached JD31 million, of which an amount of JD27 million was recorded by the Jordan Electric Power Company (JEPCO), JD1.8 million at the Irbid Electricity Company (IDECO), and JD2.2 million at the Electricity Distribution Company (EDCO).
