AMMAN — The individual's annual share of water in Jordan is less than 100 cubic metres, which is 10 per cent below the water poverty line recognised by relevant international organisations, Water Ministry Secretary General Ali Suboh said on Tuesday.
Attending a ceremony for Jordan Water Day, organised by the Hashemite University's college of natural resources and environment, Suboh noted that the Syrian refugee influx has increased water demand by 20 per cent nationwide and by 40 per cent in the northern region of the Kingdom, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Jordan has a current water deficit of 400 million cubic metres, yet the ministry delivers water to more than 95 per cent of the country's population, and provides sewage services to more than 63 per cent of the population, he noted.
