Humanitarian sciences conference concludes

AMMAN — The fifth international conference for humanitarian sciences, which concluded in the capital on Wednesday, included nine recommendations highlighting the role of education in building society and achieving sustainable development, Arab Thought Forum (ATF) Secretary General Mohammad Abu Hammour said.

HRH Prince Hassan attended the conference, which was titled “Contemporary Trends in Education Institutions: Reform and Development” and was organised by the ATF in cooperation with the London Consulting and Research Centre.

Twelve Arab countries participated in the conference, where 54 research papers were discussed in nine sessions and three workshops that covered topics such as reforming higher education and the social responsibility of universities.

Abu Hammour said the recommendations call for developing educational institutions at all levels to cope with international progress on the one hand and meet the demands of the labour market on the other. 

They also focus on activating the role of teachers in the local community in accordance with the concepts of modern education, in which a teacher has educational and social roles. 

Participants called for adopting the multi-intelligence theory in school curricula.

They stressed that the need to continue updating the curricula annually and comprehensively every five years. 

The ATF and the London Consulting and Research Centre also signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in joint projects, workshops and seminars on issues of mutual interest. 

At the end of the conference, four scholars were honoured for the quality of their research.
