Health Ministry, WHO launch project to increase number of family doctors

AMMAN — The Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation (WHO), on Wednesday launched an online programme to train general practice physicians and alleviate a shortage of qualified family doctors at public healthcare facilities.

The programme aims at strengthening the ministry’s primary healthcare system by increasing the numbers of family doctors working at primary care level, according to a WHO statement.

Minister of Health Ghazi Zaben welcomed the first cohort of 40 general practice physicians selected for the online programme on Wednesday, according to the statement During a ceremony to welcome the class, WHO Representative to Jordan Maria Cristina Profili said, “The online programme will help Jordan establish a new generation of general practice physicians who will be able to strengthen patient-centred services, paving the way for more equitable health system.”
