AMMAN — The Palestinian foreign ministry has called for enhanced Palestinian-Jordanian coordination to counter Israeli measures aimed at changing the status of Al Aqsa Mosque, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The ministry stressed the need to set up a committee to assess the extent of Israeli violations of the historic and legal status of Al Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem and to work with Jordan to address these violations in all international forums and at all levels, in fulfillment of “the responsibilities borne by Jordan and Palestine” towards Al Aqsa Mosque and the holy sites, Petra reported.
The ministry condemned the ongoing incursions into the mosque and its courtyards by Jewish settlers, and stressed that Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is continuing “to drag the region into a new spiral of violence”, according to Petra.
