AMMAN — Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and his Spanish counterpart Alfonso Dastis on Tuesday reviewed the "distinguished" relations between the two kingdoms and means to develop them, along with the latest regional developments.

Both ministers agreed on boosting communication in order to increase economic and commercial cooperation, in addition to creating a suitable environment to encourage both countries' private sectors to build economic partnerships, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Safadi and Dastis also went over efforts seeking to end the political stalemate in the peace process, the war on terrorism, as well as the Syrian crisis and its security and humanitarian repercussions.

During the meeting, which precedes the Madrid-hosted International Conference on Victims of Ethnic and Religious Violence in the Middle East, to start Wednesday, Safadi highlighted the importance of joint global efforts to end the region's conflicts, especially the Syrian crisis, which, they agreed, cannot be solved militarily.

He reiterated that solving the Palestinian issue according to the two-state solution that guarantees freedom and a state to Palestinians as well as security for Israelis is a necessary condition to achieve regional peace and security.

Safadi also highlighted the importance of the international community to continue bearing its responsibilities towards Syrian refugees, stressing that Jordan is shouldering burdens that require additional international support to continue presenting quality services to refugees.

The foreign minister also stressed the importance of covering the deficit of UNRWA's budget, noting that the financial shortage will result in interrupted supplies of basic services the agency presents to Palestinian refugees.
