FM, new US Secretary of State reaffirm strategic partnership

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday discussed regional developments and ways to enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Safadi and Blinken emphasised the strength of the partnership between the Kingdom and the US and the mutual keenness to translate it into “deeper bilateral and sustainable cooperation” in various fields, especially pertaining to resolving regional crises, bolstering security and stability as well as achieving peace and economic prosperity, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
Both ministers reviewed developments related to the peace process, the Syrian crisis, the crisis in Yemen, the situation in Iraq and the refugee file, in addition to the war on terrorism and a number of other issues of common concern.
Safadi praised the support provided by the US to the Kingdom to face economic challenges and support the comprehensive development process.
Safadi congratulated Blinken on assuming his responsibilities as the US Secretary of State.
He also highlighted the aspiration to work together to build on “the solid partnership” between the Kingdom and the US based on common values and interests and to enhance cooperation in the service of the interests of the two countries and to contribute to building a safe and stable Middle East.
Safadi also stressed the significance of the US’ announcement of its intention to restore aid programs to help the Palestinians and take steps to reopen diplomatic missions that were closed in the previous period.
Blinken confirmed that his country sees the Kingdom as a strategic partner, extending appreciation towards Jordan's vital role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, in its efforts to bolster security and stability and achieve peace in the region, the statement said
Blinken also voiced appreciation towards the humanitarian role of the Kingdom in hosting the Syrian refugees, according to the statement.
The two sides agreed to meet as soon as possible to complete the dialogue for developing bilateral relations, coordination and consultation on regional developments.
