AMMAN — Female teachers outnumber their male counterparts in all educational stages in Jordan, the Sisterhood Is Global Institute (SIGI) said on Wednesday.

In a statement issued on the occasion of the World Teachers’ Day, SIGI said 100 per cent of teachers at kindergartens were female in 2010, a percentage they maintained since 2000.

Meanwhile, female teachers accounted for 66.4 per cent of teachers in elementary schools and 52 per cent in secondary schools in 2010, SIGI said.

The Higher Education Ministry's statistics on the 2014/2015 academic year showed that there were 2,836 female faculty members at public and private universities, constituting 26.5 per cent of faculty staff, according to SIGI.
