EU distinguishes between legitimate and illegal immigrants — EU official
By JT - Jul 12,2018 - Last updated at Jul 12,2018
AMMAN — The Head of the Human Rights Section of the EU Delegation in Geneva Bela Szombati underlined that the EU's stance towards Syrian refugees is "not a stance that rejects refugees", but a stance that distinguishes between legitimate and illegal immigrants, stressing that no country can refuse refugees.
The remarks came during a meeting with a delegation of "INSAN" and "Ein" coalitions for human rights, as part of the collaborative round to support the content of the Universal Periodic Review report on human rights, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The European official made that statement following a point raised by the two coalitions' representatives, who compared the closure of the European borders while Jordan had continued to open its borders to the Syrian refugees. The members of the coalition called for a review of the EU's stance on the Syrian refugee issue.
