AMMAN — Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Monday met with Morten Ostergaard, Danish deputy prime minister and minister of economic affairs and the interior, and discussed bilateral cooperation and the latest regional developments.

The two officials underlined the “distinguished” ties Jordan and Denmark enjoy at all levels and the need to continue coordination to best serve the interests of both peoples.

Highlighting efforts aimed at combating terrorism, Judeh stressed Jordan’s stance in fighting extremism and ideologies that are against Islam’s tolerant message.

He called for intensifying international efforts to push for the resumption of peace talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis, arriving at the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders in accordance with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Judeh and Ostergaard also discussed the situation in Syria and the need to reach a political solution that ends the suffering of Syrians, and preserves their cohesion and security.

The foreign minister cited the impact of the Syrian crisis and the influx of Syrian refugees on the national economy and infrastructure, calling on the international community to bear its responsibility towards the Kingdom.

The Danish official voiced his country’s appreciation of Jordan’s “pivotal” role in the region to bring about stability and peace.

Earlier on Monday, Interior Minister Hussein Majali received Ostergaard and discussed means to boost bilateral relations at economic, political and security levels.

Majali said the Syrian crisis has placed huge burdens on different sectors in the Kingdom, calling for finding a comprehensive political solution to the crisis that ends the bloodshed and guarantees the unity of Syria.

Ostergaard expressed his country’s willingness to enhance ties with Jordan, praising the Kingdom’s approach in implementing political and economic reforms.
