AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, Culture Minister Ali Al Ayed on Tuesday inaugurated Al Jahith Bookshop in downtown Amman, which was renovated and modernised by Al Zaytoonah University of Jordan.

The bookshop is one of the oldest in Amman and endured a fire in 2018 that damaged a large number of books that aged 100 to 150 years, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Ayed said that the bookshop is a symbol of Amman’s culture and directly contributes to the cultural movement through its strategic location in the centre of the capital.

Mohammad Majali, president of the university, highlighted the university’s community service through various initiatives, including contributing to the rehabilitation of this bookshop.
