Countries vow support to Jordan after terrorist attacks in Salt, Fuheis

AMMAN — Countries from across the Middle East and elsewhere continued to offer their condolences to Jordan on Sunday, after five security personnel were killed in a terrorist attack.  

The United States embassy in Jordan strongly condemned the attack on the security personnel in Fuhais and Salt. 

“The United States embassy in Jordan strongly condemns the attack on Jordanian security personnel in Fuhais on August 10 and the ensuing terrorist actions in Salt on August 11.  We offer our heartfelt condolences to the friends, families, and colleagues of security personnel who paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting their country. We commend the bravery of the Jordanian security forces and first responders, and wish all who were injured a full and speedy recovery. The United States stands in solidarity with Jordan in the face of these terrorist actions and emphasises our shared resolve to counter the plague of terrorism,” the embassy said in a statement.

The secretary general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdul Latif Al Zayani strongly condemned the terrorist attacks in the cities of Fuhais and Salt, which targeted a security patrol and a residential building.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the GCC secretary general described the attacks as “heinous terrorist crimes that contravene all human and moral values and principles” and praised the high professionalism and preparedness of the Jordanian security forces that raided the residential building in the city of Salt, where members of the responsible terrorist cell were holed up.

The Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Jordan Prince Khalid Bin Faisal Bin Turki on Sunday expressed his country’s denunciation of the terrorist attack on Jordanian security personnel in the Fuhais  area on Friday, and the following terrorist acts in Salt on Saturday.

The ambassador expressed solidarity with Jordan and offered his sympathies to the families of the fallen officers, as well as to the Jordanian government and its people, wishing the injured a speedy recovery, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Bin Turki said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its people stand firmly with the Jordanian leadership, government and people in combating terrorism, stressing that such “cowardly acts will not discourage both countries from fighting terrorists and eradicating their radical ideologies”.

Speaker of the Bahraini Shura Council, Ali Al Saleh sent two cables to Senate President Faisal Fayez and the Jordanian ambassador in Manama Rami Al Warikat, expressing his condolences over the victims of the terrorist attacks in the cities of Fuheis and Salt.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ adviser on Religious and Islamic Affairs, and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Sharia Justice Mahmoud Habbash, also condemned the terrorist attacks, which targeted the Kingdom’s security and stability and its security forces in the city of Salt.

Habbash stressed that the State of Palestine will always support Jordan in the fight against terrorism and any attempts to sabotage its security and peace, expressing his deep condolences to the King, government and people of Jordan, and to the victims’ families.

The Palestinian National Council (PNC) has confirmed its support for the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in combating terrorism, according to a PNC’s statement on Sunday.

The Arab League condemned the terrorist attack that targeted a joint patrol of the Gendarmerie and public security forces in Fuhais, resulting in the death of one Gendarmerie officer and the injury of six others.

In a statement on Sunday, Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit denounced the terrorist act which targeted the security and stability of Jordan, voicing his sympathies and condolences to the family of the officer who fell in the line of duty and wished the wounded a speedy recovery.

The Patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem, All Palestine and Jordan, the head of the Council of Church in Jordan Theophilos III condemned acts of extremism and despicable terrorism that affected the security of the cities of Fuhais and Salt.

The committees of services, advisory bodies and civil society institutions of the camps in the Kingdom have strongly condemned the cowardly terrorist act that targeted the joint security force.

Jordan Press Association also announced the cancellation of the annual ceremony of the King Hussein Award for Excellence in Journalism in honour of the martyrs who gave their lives up in defence of the homeland.
