AMMAN — The Cabinet on Monday approved the principles of the "prior permit for the national trade window" project aiming at attracting investments and improving business environment.

In a press conference on Monday, State Minister for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani said that the project is a comprehensive electronic system for trade activity that utilises the best practices and is built on the World Customs Organisation's clearance forms, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The minister explained that the first phase of the project entails the establishment of a single window for trade with the aim of facilitating customs procedures through reducing the required time for clearance of transit goods and re-exportation from 11 to two days.

Momani also said that the measure will contribute to decreasing the costs of storage of imported and reexported goods, stressing that the project will be positively reflected on the ranking of Jordan in international reports on business environment, Petra said.

Under the trade facilitation project, all customs procedures will be computerised, including the issuance of import license, certificates of origin or any prior permits, according to Petra.
