Commerce chamber calls for extension of housing registration incentives

AMMAN — The Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) on Monday called for the extension of the decision to exempt 150 square metre apartments from registration fees, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The decision also stipulates partial exemptions for apartments that exceed 150sq.m. ACC Chairman Issa Murad said that an extension would stimulate the real estate and housing sector in the Kingdom and will address the “apparent” slowdown.

The exemptions will end on Thursday, Murad added, noting that ACC supports the Jordan Housing Developers Association’s demands to extend it. Some 11,000 apartments with an area less than 120sq.m were sold in the first 10 months of 2016 and more than 12,000 apartments between 120 and 150sq.m were sold, according to Petra.
