Abous elected as medical association president

AMMAN — Members of the Jordan Medical Association (JMA) on Friday elected Ali Abous as JMA president, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Abous, of the  Islamist and independent bloc, won 2,331 votes, while his contender Amjad Obeidat of the leftists and independents garnered 1,367 votes in the polls, which took place in Amman and at the JMA branches in Irbid, Zarqa, Salt, Karak, Maan, Aqaba and Madaba.

While more than 11,000 doctors are eligible to vote, around 4,560 syndicate members voted in the elections, according to the JMA.
