25 COVID deaths, 2,459 virus cases recorded Thursday

AMMAN — Twenty-five COVID-19 deaths and 2,459 coronavirus cases, including 2,456 local infections, were recorded in the Kingdom on Thursday, increasing the caseload to 33,009, the government announced.

 

The reported fatalities took the Kingdom’s death toll to 282, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The local cases comprised 1,071 infections in Amman, 809 in Zarqa, 135 in Irbid, including 39 in Ramtha district. The local cases also included 103 in Balqa, 96 in Ajloun, 84 in Karak, 44 in Jerash, 29 in Maan, 25 in Aqaba, 25 in Tafileh, 22 in Mafraq and 13 in Madaba.

Cases from abroad included two individuals arriving in the Kingdom and a truck driver who tested positive at the Omari border crossings.

Meanwhile, the Kingdom registered a total of 99 recoveries in accredited hospitals, the statement added.

Amid the growing number of local infections, the Ministry of Health has renewed its call on the public to abide by defence orders, as well as to adhere to precautionary measures, mainly wearing face masks, maintaining physical distancing and avoiding holding gatherings that exceed 20 people.

The ministry also highlighted the “Aman” (Safety) application for smartphones, which alerts users if they come into contact with a COVID-19 positive person, as well as “Sahtak” (your health) application, which provides users with the latest information and news related to COVID-19, in addition to guidelines and warnings pertaining to the Kingdom’s epidemiological situation.
