AMMAN — The number of Amman Bus commuters is expected to exceed 18 million by the end of 2023, according to an official.

Amman Bus, which is one of the projects managed by Amman Vision Investment and Development Company (AVID), the investment arm of the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), is expanding its routes and adding new buses to enhance transport facilities for Amman residents.

“A total of 271 buses are currently operating on 40 routes in Amman,” Ala’ Beano, CEO of AVID, told The Jordan Times on Sunday.

Beano added that the launch of the second phase of new routes has been completed, noting that five new routes have been recently added to improve public transport services within the Greater Amman Municipality.

“Amman Buses are operating using an advanced electronic tracking and payment system,” said Beano.

The total number of Amman Bus commuters exceeded 12 million in 2022, the official said.

Hussam Aldeen Rousan, head of systems directorate at AVID, told The Jordan Times that Amman Bus routes are routinely checked and customised based on commuters’ needs and demands.

“Our main aim is to facilitate transportion in Amman. Therefore, routes are always tested and, in many cases, changed and customised based on commuter demand,” Rousan added.

According to Rousan, AVID monitors routes with high traffic and modifies the number of buses in service at certain locations based on demand intensity.  AVID also manages Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).

Rousan added that the route design is based on real-time customisation of optimal passenger and vehicle matching.

"Amman Bus route network covers 870km,” Beano said.

Razan Hadi told The Jordan Times that she uses Amman Bus daily to commute to work.

“Amman Bus provides a convenient transport experience with advanced information system and electronic payments by utilising a prepaid rechargeable card,” Hadi added.

She noted that using Amman Bus helped her to cut transport expenses, which motivates her to stay employed.
