10th grader to represent Jordan at Intel ISEF with his medical invention

AMMAN — Tenth grade student Aws Omari will represent Jordan at the US Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) in April with an electronic medical device that he created, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Sunday.

His creation consists of a heart attack detector connected with a phone application. It is mainly designed for the elderly and heart patients as it detects the attack in its early stages and then sends a sound notification to awake the patient and alert people around them, according to the statement.

The device can also provide first aid to the patient by giving him the needed medication through an intravenous injection like Nitro-glycerine or any other injection as advised by the specialists. The phone application then calls the emergency number and sends the patient’s location. 

Omari’s project was among 81 projects participating in the final competition at the capital level, which was held on Saturday in Amman Teachers Club in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and The Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation. 

The competition encouraged students, with the help of their supervisors, to step into the field of modern engineering sciences and showcase their innovation and creativity, the statement said.

The supervisors and judges praised Omari’s project and recommended he register it with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply in order to obtain a patent. The statement added.

Mohammad Jdou, an official from the Ministry of Education, said that the judges committee will announce the 12 projects representing Jordan at the US Intel ISEF, and the 10 projects participating at the Egypt Intel ISEF by the end of March, adding that the committee includes 30 university professors, deans, and heads of departments specialised in science, engineering, and physics.
