‘Up to 1,000 containers cleared each day’ at Aqaba customs centre

AMMAN — Around 1,000 containers are cleared each day from the containers port and the new customs yard in Aqaba, 330km south of Amman, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported quoting Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Spokesperson Abdulmahdi Katamine as saying on Saturday. Katamine said that, during Ramadan, there will be “no delay or hindrance” in clearing containers.

ASEZA’s spokesperson said that traders imported necessary foodstuffs and commodities for Ramadan before the holy month began, adding that the new customs centre helped to improve and accelerate the clearance process.

ASEZA cooperated with the Jordan Institution for Standards and Metrology, the Jordan Food and Drug Administration, the Jordan Customs Department, the Agriculture Ministry and security bodies, in order to review the contents of containers at the new customs centre.
