I refer to the article “Municipality boosting efforts to keep Amman clean” (The Jordan Times, August 8, 2012).

While I commend the Greater Amman Municipality’s continued battle at keeping Amman clean, I would like to point out that without proper supervision, this is a lost cause.

I saw street cleaners remove garbage from the streets and dispose of it in adjacent empty plots of land.

I am harassed on a regular basis by the workers on garbage trucks who ring my doorbell looking for tips rather than properly attending to their work.

Therefore, no matter how many additional cleaners are hired, without strict supervision the situation will not improve.
