AMMAN — On the sidelines of his working visit to Germany on Wednesday, His Majesty King Abdullah met with several leading intellectual, political and academic figures.

At a meeting held at Körber Foundation, King Abdullah highlighted the current challenges in the Middle East and the latest developments at the regional and international levels.

The King asserted that terrorism and radicalism are the region's primary challenge, noting that facing this danger requires a comprehensive strategic approach that deals with its various aspects.

He reiterated that the war on terrorism is a war within Islam and against a group of whom he described as khawarej, an Arabic word used to refer to outlaws that are on the fringe of Islam.

Also, King Abdullah asserted that the international community should intensify its efforts to arrive at a just solution to the Palestinian question, noting that its continuing to be unsolved feeds tension and different forms of struggle in the region.

With regard to the Syrian crisis, the King explained that a comprehensive political solution is still the sole means to end the suffering of the Syrian people.

His Majesty also highlighted the burdens borne by the Kingdom as a result of hosting around 1.5 million Syrians.

Moreover, King Abdullah addressed the developments in Iraq, Libya and Yemen, and cautioned against the continuation of crises there.

At the beginning of the meeting, Thomas Paulsen, member of Körber Foundation’s executive board, welcomed His Majesty and expressed the foundation's appreciation and pride in the King's visit.

In its work, the foundation focuses on key issues that concern the foreign policy of the European Union and its member states vis-à-vis the Middle East, East Europe, Russia and other political blocs.
