AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday sent a cable of congratulations to Egyptian President-elect Mohammed Mursi, a Royal Court statement said.
In the cable, the King stressed Jordan’s commitment to continued efforts to boost its relations with Egypt in all domains, in the best interest of the Jordanian and the Egyptian peoples and in a manner that helps activate Arab and Islamic cooperation.
Mursi, the Muslim Brotherhood’s nominee, was declared the winner in Egypt’s presidential election on Sunday.
The election marked the first free presidential poll in the country after the toppling of Hosni Mubarak.
On Sunday night, Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications and Government Spokesperson Samih Maaytah commended the success of the presidential election and welcomed the choice of the Egyptian people to continue their democratic process.
The minister expressed the government’s wishes of security and stability and further prosperity for Egypt and its people.
