AMMAN — Nael Kabariti, chairman of Jordan and Aqaba Chambers of Commerce, on Monday said the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority’s tax department has asked transit companies to pay income tax retroactively for the past five years. In a statement, he said that imposing income tax on transit companies in Aqaba would harm the Aqaba Port, which is perceived as a regional port, and warned that logistic transport companies would transfer their investments to other ports in neighbouring countries.
