AMMAN — Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Tuesday met with a delegation of congressional aides and discussed bilateral ties and prospects for further cooperation.

Judeh highlighted the aftermath of the Israeli aggression on Gaza, stressing the need for urgent aid and humanitarian assistance to the strip.

He underlined Jordan’s readiness to put all its capabilities at the disposal of Gaza and support rebuilding efforts.

The minister cited Jordan’s political and diplomatic endeavours to ensure the permanent halt of the Israeli aggression against the enclave.

On the local level, Judeh acquainted the delegates with reform steps taken by Jordan.

In addition, discussions covered the latest developments in Syria and the need to reach a political solution that ensures the cohesion and unity of Syrians, as well as the situation in Iraq.

Also on Tuesday, the delegation met with members of the Independent Elections Commission’s (IEC) board of commissioners.

IEC President Riyadh Shakaa stressed the importance of the commission in establishing a new era in the management of elections.

He said the IEC has been able to provide citizens with the guarantees of free and fair elections.

Under the new constitutional amendments, the IEC will manage and supervise any elections assigned by the government and not just parliamentary polls as was the case before.
