AMMAN — Jordan on Thursday condemned the arson attack against a Greek Orthodox seminary of a church in occupied Jerusalem by a suspected group of Jewish extremists.
Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani said the act of burning the seminary and defacing it with writing against Christianity and Jesus Christ is in violation of all international laws and religions.
The Israeli government, as an occupation power, is responsible for any desecration of Christian and Muslim holy places, added Momani, who is also the minister of state for media affairs and communications.
Jordan, he added, will continue to exert utmost efforts to defend Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem as part of the Hashemites' decades-long custodianship over these sites, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Also on Thursday, the secretary general of the Islamic-Christian Commission in Support of Jerusalem and Holy Sites, Hanna Issa, was quoted by Petra as saying that several rooms in the seminary were damaged in the arson attack.
