Jordan calls for more UN efforts in conflict prevention

NEW YORK — Jordan on Thursday stressed the important role that the UN plays in the prevention of international conflicts, stressing the need for broader efforts.
At a UN Security Council session to discuss conflict prevention, Jordan’s Permanent Representative at the UN Dina Kawar said preventive efforts are still lacking because current armed conflicts have different reasons and most of them are internal rather than between different countries, as the situation was when the UN charter was adopted around seven decades ago.
She highlighted the need for further comprehensive study of the charter to ensure broader and more flexible efforts to prevent conflicts.
