AMMAN — Deputies formed a committee on Wednesday to examine and identify suspected corruption in agreements signed between the government and oil exploration companies.
The committee, formed by a joint Lower House committee that includes members from the legal, investment and economic panels, will refer its findings to the Lower House.
The decision was taken at a meeting held with legal and technical representatives of the Energy Ministry, during which a number of MPs criticised the mechanism of referring tenders for oil explorations to Global Petroleum, Sonoran Energy and Universe Gas and Oil companies.
The deputies said some companies working in the field of oil exploration are “weak” and “bogus”, noting that there are “obvious mistakes” in the agreements with the companies in question.
