AMMAN — The Kingdom will remain under the impact of a hot air mass until the end of next week, with temperatures expected to rise three to four degrees above their annual average for this time of year.

Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) Director General Mohammad Samawi said the hot and humid air mass is accompanied by the expansion of a seasonal depression originating from the Arabian Peninsula.

“The hot and humid weather will give a sense of discomfort. We advise people to drink large amounts of water and keep away from the sun, especially during peak hours,” he told the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The increase in temperatures will continue throughout next week, reaching its peak on Monday, when mercury levels in Amman are expected to rise seven degrees above their annual average, reaching a maximum of 39°C.

Daytime temperatures in Amman and hilly areas for the rest of the week will range between 32°C and 36°C, Samawi noted.

He added that daytime temperatures in Aqaba, the Dead Sea and Jordan Valley will exceed 40°C.

On Friday, temperatures in Amman will range between a low of 22°C and a high of 34°C. In Aqaba, mercury levels will be between 28°C and 39°C, according to a JMD statement.

Temperatures in the Jordan Valley are expected to reach a high of 40°C on Friday, dropping to a low of 29°C at night, while they will range between 21°C and 37°C in the desert.

In hilly areas mercury levels are forecast to range between a high of 30°C and a low of 17°C.
