By Petra - May 03,2015 - Last updated at May 03,2015
AMMAN — Hotels will now be charged the same electricity tariff as industrial entities, under a government decision announced by Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Sunday.
The decision is intended to mitigate challenges facing the tourism sector as hotels had been charged the same electricity tariff as commercial entities, which is higher than the rate for industrial establishments.
The premier made the announcement at a meeting with representatives of different economic sectors that was held to strengthen the partnership between the public and the private sectors.
Ensour said the tourism sector has suffered in light of regional developments, pointing out that the decision will help reduce hotels' electricity bill by around JD28 million annually.
