AMMAN — The US on Sunday reaffirmed its support for Jordan in hosting Syrian refugees, stressing the Kingdom’s central role in ensuring stability and security in the region.

Speaking during a meeting with Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh in Amman, US Ambassador to Syria Robert Ford thanked Jordan for hosting Syrian refugees and providing them with services, reiterating calls on the international community to support the Kingdom’s efforts.

Also during the meeting, the two diplomats discussed the latest developments concerning the Syrian crisis, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The two officials reasserted the importance of arriving at a political solution to the Syrian crisis to end the bloodshed there.

They noted that the international community should shoulder its responsibility vis-à-vis the impact of the Syrian crisis on Syria and its neighbouring countries.

Judeh highlighted the repercussions of the situation in Syria on Jordan, citing the humanitarian aspect, in particular, as Jordan is hosting over 250,000 Syrian refugees who have converged onto the Kingdom in the wake of the Syrian crisis.

Despite the Kingdom’s difficult economic conditions, Jordan will continue with its efforts to host Syrian refugees and to present the necessary services to them, the minister said.
