AMMAN - A Jordanian delegation of agriculture stakeholders will visit Iraq next week to discuss the possibility of opening new markets for Jordanian fruits and vegetables in the eastern neighbour, according to a Ministry of Agriculture statement sent to The Jordan Times on Tuesday.

Members of the delegation, which will be headed by the ministry’s secretary general, Radi Tarawneh, will meet with Iraqi officials to discuss establishing a mechanism to export Jordanian produce to Iraq, the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry has sent an official memorandum to the Syrian authorities requesting a special transit route for Jordanian agricultural products exported to Syria.

Jordan exports 150,000 tonnes of fruits and vegetables to Syria daily, according to the statement.
