AMMAN — The State Security Court (SSC) on Thursday appointed attorneys for seven defendants in the Abdali flea market case at the state’s expense and decided to adjourn the session until next Thursday.
The suspects in question could not hire lawyers due to their financial situation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
A total of 28 owners of stalls at the downtown market pleaded not guilty last Thursday when their trial opened at the SSC.
The vendors are charged with engaging in terrorist actions using weapons and combustible materials as they clashed with security forces over a decision to remove the flea market from Abdali to Ras Al Ain, in addition to committing acts that would harm the Kingdom’s relations with foreign countries and endangering public safety. They were also indicted for lèse-majesté.
