Aqaba Container Terminal in negotiations to reach deal with employees

By JT - Aug 20,2014 - Last updated at Aug 20,2014

AMMAN — The Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) on Wednesday said that negotiations are ongoing with the union committee formed by ACT employees.

These negotiations, which started in March 2014, were mediated by an independent facilitator and are now proceeding through “the Ministry of Labour system” as per the Labour Law, according to an ACT statement.

The mediation process “has now concluded and meetings have been held in Amman with the minister of labour [Nidal Katamine] directly”.

The minister will now form a council for hearing the case, which “will commence shortly”, ACT said, adding that it is working to reach an amicable settlement of “the collective bargaining agreement” following the recent four-day employee strike at the terminal which brought exports and imports to a near standstill.
