Activists call for amending laws to protect guest workers

By JT - Sep 14,2014 - Last updated at Sep 14,2014

AMMAN — Activists on Sunday called for amending legislation related to the rights of foreign workers in order to protect them from becoming victims of human trafficking.

In a statement issued by Tamkeen for Legal Aid and Human Rights, they noted that loopholes in laws governing guest workers have made them more vulnerable to exploitation and abuse by their employers.

Following a workshop the centre recently organised, the activists called for revisiting the labour, anti-trafficking, residency and foreign affairs laws as well as the Penal Code.

They also recommended providing legal aid to human trafficking victims.
