AMMAN — The Criminal Court has handed a repeat child molester a 10-year prison term for molesting a 12-year-old boy in one of the governorates in July 2010.
The court first sentenced the 27-year-old defendant to eight years after finding him guilty of molesting the child in his tent on July 20.
But the court decided to increase the sentence to 10 years because the defendant had been convicted and sentenced to one year in prison by the Criminal and Cassation Courts in 2003 for the same offence.
The victim was walking in the street when the defendant approached him and lured him to his tent, court papers said.
“The defendant molested the child by force... and asked him not to tell anyone about the incident,” the court added.
“The boy returned home and informed his parents, who took him to the Family Protection Department, which examined him and took samples from his body for DNA analysis,” the court said.
The defendant had pled not guilty to the charges in an earlier court session.
The tribunal, which issued the verdict on December 20, comprised judges Nahar Ghazo, Amjad Kurdi and Ibrahim Bawareed.
