AMMAN — The Ministry of Education opened 497 illiteracy eradication centres in the Kingdom during the 2010-2011 scholastic year, 469 of them designated for women, Minister of Education Eid Dahiyat said on Saturday.

On the occasion of Arab Illiteracy Eradication Day, which falls on January 8, Dahiyat indicated that the ministry has set up several specialised policies to eliminate illiteracy and implemented a number of programmes and projects to provide a suitable educational environment for people across the Kingdom.
